Breakout Scents: The Truth About Prada Paradoxe & Love Don't Be Shy Dupes

By Dave Wrench

If you keep an eye on the UK fragrance community like I do, you'll know exactly what the two biggest "Breakout" scents are right now. Everyone and their dog is searching for dupes of Prada Paradoxe and By Kilian's Love, Don't Be Shy.

These are stunning fragrances. Love Don't Be Shy is famous for being Rihanna's signature scentβ€”it's this massive, sweet bomb of marshmallow, orange blossom, caramel, and vanilla. Prada Paradoxe is a beautiful modern hit packed with neroli, pear, jasmine, and bourbon vanilla.

But here is the problem: The original Kilian will set you back nearly Β£300, and the Prada isn't cheap either. So, naturly, everyone is running to the high street looking for a cheap alternative.

Why Cheap Sweet Dupes Smell Like Plastic

It's the pigeon meme all over again! I see people spraying a Β£10 bottle of supermarket perfume, pointing at it and asking, "Is this a luxury gourmand?" No mate, it really isn't.

I’m going to be brutally honest with you. When it comes to heavy, sweet gourmand notes like vanilla, caramel, and marshmallow, you cannot fake it with cheap ingredients.

Look at how a fragrance is built. Those sweet notes sit right at the bottom in the "Base Notes" section. They are supposed to anchor the fragrance to your skin for hours. But when you buy a high street clone, the factories use synthetic, bottom-tier vanilla compounds and they water it down with 90% alcohol. The result? It smells like burning plastic or cheap kids' sweets, and it completely vanishes from your skin before you've even left the house.

The Extrait Alternative

Here in Newton-le-Willows, we approach perfumery totaly differently. At Alexandria Fragrances UK, we aren't trying to make the cheapest clones on the market. We are trying to make the best premium alternatives.

While we are always working on new artisan blends, my main advice to anyone looking for these specific breakout scents is this: Do your research. Stop wasting your money on watered-down Eau de Toilette sprays that fade on the walk to the pub.

Whether you end up buying from us or someone else, always look for an Extrait de Parfum. That means it has a high concentration of pure, premium perfume oils (up to 35%). Because high-quality oils are used instead of cheap synthetics, the sweet notes will be rich, deep, and smooth, and they will actualy stick to your clothes for days.
