"Eau de Parfum" and "Eau de Toilette" are two of the most common labels on any fragrance bottle — and two of the most misunderstood. They aren't different scents; they're different concentrations of fragrance oil, and that single difference changes how strong a perfume is, how long it lasts, and how much you pay. The short answer
The difference comes down to how much perfume oil is dissolved in the alcohol base. Eau de Parfum (EDP) has a higher concentration of fragrance oil, so it's stronger and lasts longer. Eau de Toilette (EDT) has a lower concentration, so it's lighter, fresher and fades faster — but it's often cheaper and easier to wear casually.

What do the concentrations actually mean?
Every fragrance is a blend of perfume oil and an alcohol base. The name on the bottle tells you roughly how concentrated that oil is. From lightest to strongest, the usual order is: Eau de Cologne, Eau de Toilette, Eau de Parfum, and then Extrait de Parfum (also called pure parfum), which is the most concentrated of all.
So Eau de Toilette sits toward the lighter end, Eau de Parfum is a step up in richness and staying power, and Extrait de Parfum is stronger still. The higher the concentration, the less you need to apply and the longer it tends to last.
Which lasts longer — EDP or EDT?
Eau de Parfum, in almost every case. Because it holds more fragrance oil, an EDP typically lasts several hours longer than the EDT version of the same scent, and projects more strongly. An EDT might need a top-up through the day; an EDP is more likely to still be there by evening. Actual longevity always varies with your skin type, the specific notes, and the weather — but concentration is the single biggest factor.
Which is stronger?
EDP is stronger. If you find some fragrances fade too quickly or sit too close to the skin, an EDP (or an even more concentrated Extrait) will give you more presence and longevity from a single application. If you prefer something subtle and fresh that won't fill a room, EDT is the gentler choice.
Is EDP or EDT better value?
